Itinerary

The Cádiz by Night Free Walking Tour starts in a place with a lot of history: the Plaza de San Juan de Dios. This lively meeting point has been -for centuries- the commercial and social heart of the city. To one side, you'll see the imposing City Hall with its elegant neoclassical facade.

A good place to enjoy the Cadiz atmosphere that fills the square, as well as hear about the Phoenician origins of Cadiz and its importance in maritime trade.

From here, you will go to the old town through the Arco de la Rosa: one of the ancient medieval gates that gave access to the walled city.

This passage will take you directly to the Cathedral Square, where you can admire the emblematic baroque-neoclassical temple that is illuminated in a special way after sunset - its golden dome is marvelous! In this square you will also discover the history of the Church of Santiago, a corner full of traditions and legends that dates back to 1635.

The tour will continue to the Mercado Central de Abastos, (Central Market). Did you know that it is the oldest covered market in Spain? Here you will not only learn about its history, but also the most characteristic flavors of the gastronomy of Cadiz: from fried fish to the famous chicharrones, to the churros with chocolate that are a classic in any visit to the city.

Then, you will approach the Tavira Tower, one of the highest points of the historic center and former watchtower, from where the coming and going of ships was controlled in the eighteenth century.

From here, you will make a leap in time to the Oratory of San Felipe Neri, a key place in the history of Spain, since it was in this temple where in 1812 the first Spanish Constitution was signed, popularly known as “La Pepa”.

A little further on you will come to a special place: the Plaza de Mina. Here, among gardens and buildings you will breathe history and culture, with important sites such as the Museum of Cadiz and the birthplace of the composer Manuel de Falla.

To finish the Cádiz Night Free Tour, you will go to the Alameda Apodaca, one of the most beautiful promenades of Cádiz. You will be surrounded by the sea breeze and under the shade of its impressive centenary ficus trees, to enjoy spectacular views of the Atlantic, while the magic of the Cadiz night envelops you.
